East Beijing Presents Li Ruoxi’s New Solo Exhibition: "Rou · Leisurely Pace"

Recently, East Beijing has partnered with its long-term art collaborator UCVibes Art Space to present Rou · Leisurely Stroll, a brand-new solo exhibition by post-90s local artist Li Ruoxi, in the lobby on the hotel’s first floor.
The exhibition will run from July 1 to October 31, 2026. Integrating art into daily pedestrian routes, it initiates a gentle dialogue about relaxation, self-consistency and perceptions of contemporary life across the hotel’s public spaces.
For East Beijing, art has never been confined to merely decorative embellishments. Instead, it serves as a channel for the hotel to forge connections with urban culture. Nestled in an artistically vibrant district of Beijing and adjacent to the 798 Art Zone, East Beijing has long aspired to bring art back into everyday life. Art is no longer exclusive to galleries; it also unfolds in those fleeting moments when travelers step into the lobby, pause their steps and take a moment to unwind.
Through quarterly rotating art exhibitions, East Beijing consistently invites local artists to showcase their works within the hotel premises, allowing guests to chance encounters with artistic creation, urban vibes and their inner emotions as they move about the property.
The exhibited show Rou · Leisurely Stroll carries forward East Beijing’s consistent curatorial focus on local creativity and authentic experiences, while echoing the shared longing of urban dwellers in modern times to slow down.
The "Rou" in the exhibition title draws its meaning from two layers. For one thing, it derives from the dialectal connotation of the Chinese character "rou" in northern China, referring to an unrushed, laid-back pace of life. For another, it is inspired by the recurring figure of "chubby girls" in Li Ruoxi’s artworks: plump, relaxed and unconstrained, embodying acceptance of one’s body, emotions and inner self. Intertwined together, these two meanings make this exhibition more than something merely to be viewed. It also invites people to reconnect with themselves and rethink the relationship between comfort and beauty.
Li Ruoxi was born in Beijing, where she currently lives and works. She graduated from the Affiliated High School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and holds a Master’s degree in Printmaking from Tama Art University in Japan.
Her artistic practice has long revolved around female perception, everyday aesthetics and laid-back routines. With muted, airy hues, simple yet delicate compositions, and soft, gentle brushwork, she depicts quiet moments by the sea, beside windows, in afternoons, during holidays, and instances of being at one with one’s own body. In her paintings, trivial daily details often overlooked amid hustle and bustle are imbued anew with emotional depth and healing power.
The artworks on view naturally resonate with the lifestyle advocated by East Beijing. Designed for curious, creative individuals with an emphasis on sustainable living, East Beijing has long believed that truly valuable experiences do not necessarily stem from hustle and excess, but often stem from ordinary moments cherished with mindfulness.
This lobby exhibition is an extension of this philosophy. Within this open, fluid public space, art is accessible to everyone and does not have to be “understood” intellectually. Instead, it serves as a gentle invitation for all visitors to momentarily slow down amid fast-paced urban life and discover their own sense of ease.
From midsummer to early autumn, East Beijing hopes to create a space for pause, viewing and reflection for hotel guests and the local community through this exhibition.
